Our Approach
John Patriquin woodworking combines an innovation-driven design philosophy with an extensive knowledge of and respect for traditional design and technique. While our work is grounded in the best time honored materials and techniques, we are always seeking new methods of fabrication for improved durability and lifespan. We have an unwavering commitment to superior craftsmanship, and to this end we approach every project with the belief that there is always room for greater refinement.
Client Relationships
We work in all styles and to all degrees of collaboration with individual clients, architects, interior designers, and reputable builders. Special importance is placed on being attentive and responsive to our client requests, and every project is approached with an emphasis on thorough planning, clear communication, prompt follow ups, and reliable service. Equally important, we make it a priority to anticipate and prevent potential problems, both early in the planning stages and throughout the entire construction phase, enabling our clients to work with us with complete confidence. The importance we place on thorough planning and personal service is why so many of our projects are for satisfied repeat clientele.
The Design and Build Process
Our engagement begins with an initial meeting to explore needs, criteria, and preferences. Based on this exchange, we prepare preliminary scale sketches and a written proposal listing materials, estimated costs, and project duration. Upon client review and approval of this preliminary proposal, a highly detailed set of revised drawings are prepared and it is at this stage that no detail is too small for careful consideration. In addition to drawings, we provide a complete written quotation describing project scope, materials, finish, costs, construction timeline and target delivery date. Approval signatures by client and maker begin the project. All parties are informed throughout the shop construction phase with progress updates, and our customers are encouraged to visit our clean, spacious shop to view their work in progress.
We are trusted for our on time delivery dates and flawless, efficient installations. From a single item of furniture to an interior of built-in casework, all projects are delivered blanket wrapped and carefully handled. While installing in a private residence, corporate office,or building site, we are mindfull of safety, security procedures, and take every precaution necessary to protect interior surfaces and furnishings. Our installation sites are left as clean as when we arrived.
With years of practical experience in a wide variety of project types, we are able to recommend proven solutions to technical and design issues. In addition, our clients benefit from our seasoned ability to recognize historical context, to identify current usage, and create works that respect the past, serve the present, and endure for the future.

Our Facilities
John Patriquin Woodworking occupies a 4,000 square foot, sun-filled shop on the top floor of a well preserved mill building in Medford, Massachusetts minutes from downtown Boston and easily accessible from the surrounding areas. Our facilities include a spacious, well-equipped machine room; traditional bench and assembly areas; wood and veneer selection bays; and a professional finish room. Our first-class machinery include many meticulously restored cast iron classics from the industrial golden age, complemented by state-of-the-art European sanding equipment.
Quality Materials
From raw lumber and veneer to fine hardware and hand rubbed finishes, our materials are carefully considered and always selected as the very best of their type for overall suitability, durability, and character.
Our clients benefit from the excellent relationships we have developed over the years with reputable to-the-trade-only suppliers. We have access to the highest grades of domestic and imported hardwoods as well as an enormous range of exquisite veneers from the world over. And since today's projects include a wide range of materials in addition to woods, we have the experience to integrate fabrics, leathers, stone, metals, and composites, into projects that demand them.
In keeping with our high expectations, we incorporate hardware from the best sources, in styles ranging from authentic reproduction British brass to the most current European engineered cabinet hardware and fittings. Our in-shop sprayed lacquer and oil enamel finishes are superior in technical application, and are chosen to enhance the design, materials, and meticulous craftsmanship we are known for.
